Funeral services for former Minden Mayor Frank T. Norman, 79, will be held at 3:30 p.m. today, (Tuesday, November 22, 1994) at Rose-Neath's Minden Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. Ronald Prince, assisted by Rev. Rick Spencer. Burial will follow in the Minden Cemetery.
Norman died Sunday, November 20 at Bossier Medical Center after a sudden illness. He was a native of Homer and had lived in Webster Parish most of his life He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as deacon.
Norman served as a City Councilman before becoming mayor of Minden from 1958 to 1966.
During his administration, the City of Minden Light Plant was constructed, several one-way streets were initiated and Minden was selected as Cleanest City for Several years. He also initiated the creation of the "Lagoon."
He was also grand secretary-recorder emeritus of the Grand Chapter and Grand Council. He was past Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of the State of Louisiana. He was also past Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter of the Royal Arch of the Mason and had received a number of other honorary degrees.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Frankie Norman Tompkins and one grandson, Norman Ray Tompkins.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Norman of Minden; one granddaughter, Jan Burke and her husband, Bill, of Shreveport; two great granddaughters, Katie and Jessie Burke, both of Shreveport; one sister, Juanita Leach of Gainesville, Texas; several nieces and nephews.
