Mary Lyle Moore was the youngest daughter of Mary Gilleland and Robert Lyle. She was born in Northampton County, Pennsylvania on Sep. 23, 1763. She was only 2 years old when her father died in Dec. of 1785. Mary married James Moore in 1783. He was the son of John Moore of Northampton County. Mary Lyle Moore and her husband were the first of the Lyle families to move west to Washington County, PA. They were followed a little later by her sister, Elizabeth Lyle Gaston and her husband James and later by 3 brothers. Mary and James Moore moved in 1807 to Mercer County, PA. They purchased a tract of land near the village of Pulaski. That part of Mercer County is now in Lawrence County, PA. They spent the remainder of their lives on this land.
