The Rev. Arlo L. Leinback, 96, of Venice, Fla., passed away Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, in Venice, Fla.

He was born April 6, 1918, on his family’s Wild Rose Ranch in South Dakota.

Arlo was an Episcopal priest and World War II veteran. Arlo went on active duty as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, where he served as an infantry officer in the Second Infantry (Indianhead) Division. Arlo landed at Omaha Beach on the second day of the Normandy Invasion, and fought in France, Belgium, Germany and Czechoslovakia. He was promoted to first lieutenant in France, where he received his Combat Infantryman Badge and a Bronze Star.

He met Mary Duff Burt on a blind dinner date at the home of his old college chaplain. Six weeks later, in July 1947, they were married. In 2004, Arlo and Mary moved to the Village on the Isle retirement community in Venice, where Mary died in 2008.

He is survived by his son, Bruce (Linda) Leinback of Monticello; daughters, Sheila Adams of Bamberg, S.C., and Joan (Carl) Riggs of Punta Gorda, Fla.; an “adopted son,” Dennis (Patricia) Anderson; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and four step-great-grandchildren. Arlo was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Elizabeth Leinback; and his sister, Darlene Leinback.
