Arteberry

O. Dave Arteberry, 82, died April 11, 1989 in the Sayre Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, April 14 at the Rose Chapel with Joe Peery officiating. Burial was in the Sayre-Doxey Cemetery.

Dave, the son of James and Mattie Arteberry, was born October 14, 1906 in Calico Rock, Ark. He moved to Sayre in 1928 and farmed with S. G. McLaury. On Oct. 25, 1929, he married Shirley Ellen McLaury in Elk City. Dave was self-employed in several business ventures and then owned and operated the Apco Service Station until his retirement in 1981. He was a veteran who served his country in the United States Marine Corps.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; four daughters, Mattie Gail Thompson of Erick, Diana Franklin of Elk City, Clyde Ellen Reynolds of Anault, Texas, and Davie Sue Thomas of Pueblo, Colo.; one son, David Gardner of Kansas City, Kan.; two brothers, Francis Arteberry of Mississippi and Carl Arteberry of Murray, Ky.; a sister, Ora Grey of Muskogee, Okla.; 17 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and host of other relatives and friends.
