Robert L. Church

Bob was born July 30, 1923 in Forsyth, MO to Orin and Lucy Church, and passed away in his sleep December 1, 2014 at his home in Tacoma. He was a resident of Tacoma for over 40 years. After graduating from Lincoln High School he joined the Navy, serving during World War II. He joined the Tacoma Fire Dept. in 1948, eventually becoming Fire Marshal. During his time with the Fire Prevention Bureau, Bob implemented fire safety procedures that were adopted by other cities and fire educators across the nation. After retirement, Bob and his wife Wanda moved to Sequim, where they lived until the love of his life passed away in 2004. Bob was devoted to his family and dedicated to anything he undertook, especially his firefighting career. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Orin and Ben, wife of 61 years, Wanda, and son Robert Jr. He is survived by his wife of seven years, Lois, daughter Darlene Kotas, daughter and son-in-law Arlene and Gordie Klein, four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. No public service is planned.
