James George Bennett, 71, of Monroeton, Pa., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, Pa. following a brief illness. Jim was born April 13, 1940 in Laceyville, Pa. to Glenn F. and Florence M. Beckman Bennett. Jim will be remembered for his humor, practical jokes, storytelling abilities, countless hours of playing chess, and love for football and baseball. Jim took an early retirement from a Security Company in Ohio to care for his father in Laceyville and always enjoyed coming home to spend time with family. Jim moved to Monroeton in 2009. Jim is survived by his wife, Terry Arthur Bennett of Monroeton, Pa.; his children, Kim Shimkus, William Bennett, Kay Patterson, and Kathy Vara, all of California and their mother, Carolyn Hawley Bennett Pedersen, of California; grandchildren Anthony Bennett, Jennifer Patterson, Michelle Bennett, Stephanie Vallejo, Sarah Keeley, and Branden Vara, all of California; siblings Sue Bennett Sagrati of Ohio and Dr. John V Bennett of Georgia; sisters-in-law, Myrna Bennett of California and Regna Bennett of Georgia; and brother-in-law Al Sagrati of Ohio; many nieces and nephews; stepchildren Joshua Bartholomew, Gary Bartholomew, Jr., and Nicole Heeman; and step-grandchildren Logan and Alyssa Bartholomew and Elizabeth, Rylee, and Katelyn Heeman. Jim was preceded in death by parents Glenn F. Bennett and Florence M. Beckman Bennett, brother, Robert G. Bennett and grandson Samuel James Shimkus. A memorial service for James will be announced at a later date.

James G. Bennett, 71, of Monroeton, PA, passed away on Feb. 1, 2012, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, following a brief illness. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 10 at 2 p.m. with a viewing at 1 p.m. at the Beavers Meadows Church, Laceyville, with Rev. Tom Blackall and Pastor Patricia Newhart officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Florence M. Bennett Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o First Liberty Bank & Trust in Towanda or Wyalusing, PA.
