Arthur "Art" Larson, Jr. was born in the Palmer logging camp on Larch Mountain in the Mt. Hood National Forest outside of Portland, Oregon to Edwin Arthur Larson, Sr. and Hilda Baker Larson. He was their last child and only son. His father was the master mechanic for the Bridal Veil Timer Company and Art enjoyed growing up in the excitement of a logging camp. Throughout his childhood and adolescence he lived in various towns in Oregon including Gresham and Coos Bay. After high school, Art came to California to attend L.I.F.E. Bible College of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel and lived in Pasadena, not far from where his daughter now lives. He began his ministerial career as a traveling youth evangelist throughout the Midwest which is where he met his future wife, Joy. Reverend James P. Lowen, pastor of the Foursquare Church in Kansas City, Missouri, performed their marriage ceremony on January 1, 1944.

During the first two summers of their marriage, Art and Joy directed youth summer camps in Missouri, Colorado, Arizona and Northern California. During the early 1950's, Art became District Director of Youth in Northern California and later Southern California. This entailed speaking engagements, building and directing camps (including Cap Cedar Crest near Lake Arrowhead and Old Oak Ranch near Sonora), running an office and creating written material for the Foursquare ministry. In 1954, Art and Joy were assigned to pastor a church in Santa Barbara, California, which is still located on Alamar Avenue

In 1954 Art left the ministry in order to support his growing family, which was soon to include a new daughter and his mother, who had moved in with the family following his father's death. He began work as a cabinet maker and soon thereafter a licensed contractor. He was the general contractor on many large construction jobs for real estate developers Eli Luria and Fred Rice, and his quality work can be seen throughout Santa Barbara.

Art was known for his strength of convictions, his love of the Lord, his devotion to his wife and his sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Joy Fitch Larson and son John Thomas Larson. He is survived by his daughter Arthea Joy Larson of Pasadena, California and niece Alice Emerson Adkins of Lodi, California.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at Welch, Ryce-Haider Mortuary in Santa Barbara, California. The family requested that in lieu of flowers donations be sent Christian School of Santa Barbara of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel.
