MUSCATINE, Iowa — Betty J. Kemper, 84, of Muscatine, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2014 at All American Care Center.

Betty Jane Adkison was born on August 9, 1929 in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of James W. and Mildred E. (Dusenberry) Adkison. On January 26, 1947, Betty was united in marriage to Robert W. Kemper in Muscatine.

She was a member of the Church of Christ and Moose Lodge. She and her sister-in-law, Lois Kemper, owned and operated their own cake decorating business, Kemper Cakes. She was also a cake decorating instructor at Muscatine Community College. Betty belonged to several craft clubs, was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Betty will be missed by her children, Larry Kemper and wife, Carolyn of Muscatine, daughter-in-law, Deb Kemper of Muscatine, Dennis Kemper and wife, Linda of New Boston, Nancy Taube and husband, James of Muscatine, Tamara Allison and husband, Matthew of Fruitland; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren one brother, Frank Adkison and wife, Pat of Muscatine; and sister-in-law, Ruth Adkison of Muscatine.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Bobby Kemper in infancy; son, Gary Kemper; sister, Evelyn Babcock and brother, James “Richard” R. Adkison.

Casket bearers will be Corey McKillip, Steve Sulzberger, Chad Kemper, Gage Allison, Jack Kemper and Matt Allison.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, with a time of food and fellowship to follow at the Church of Christ in Muscatine.
