Doris M. Diefenbach-Greene, 83, of Herscher, died Thursday (March 24, 2011) at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee.

Burial will be in Grand Prairie Cemetery, Bonfield.

Mrs. Diefenbach-Greene was a homemaker and was a manager at So-Fro Fabrics and at Catherine’s clothing store.

She was born Dec. 14, 1927, in Kankakee, the daughter of Charles and Sadie Reniche Cahan.

Her first husband, Donald G. Diefenbach, whom she married at Grand Prairie United Methodist Church, died Feb. 10, 1983.

She later married Joseph D. Greene Dec. 20, 1994, at Grand Prairie United Methodist Church. He died Dec. 18, 2004.

She was a 4-H leader, American Red Cross swimming instructor, and a tax assessor for Salina and Essex townships. She was a member of Grand Prairie United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was a member of Martha’s Circle and other circles. She was a member of Home Bureau and the Bonfield Lioness Club. She had a seamstress ability, traveled, and collected music boxes, birds and oil lamps. She loved game shows and playing cards. She spent the last 16 years wintering in Arcadia, Fla. She loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandson, especially hearing them sing.

Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, James Donald and Donna Kay Diefenbach, of Bonfield, Edward Charles and Cherie Lynn Diefenbach, of Nashville, Tenn., and Richard Alan and Susan Kay Diefenbach, of Alto, Mich.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marion Rose and Myron R. Panozzo, of Chebanse, and Joyce A. and Richard W. Cochran, of Bonfield; two stepdaughters and one stepson-in-law, Sandy and Monty Smith, and Penny Dickerson, all of Herscher; grandchildren, Matthew James and Betty Diefenbach, Angela Kay and Jason Robert Kirk, Leslie Nicole and David Diefenbach-Hall, Kathleen Marie Diefenbach and special friend, Kristopher Siple, William Edward Diefenbach, Elizabeth Ann Diefenbach, Benjamin Richard Diefenbach, Michele K. and Scott Hanson, Michael R. and Deidre Panozzo, Tricia and Troy Coffman, Cheri and David Dayton and Jennifer Cochran; great-grandchildren, Ashton Rae and Brian Hewkin, Caitlyn Briana Diefenbach, Britton Michael Kirk, Laura Rose and Nikolaus S. Hanson, Reagan L. Panozzo, Giacomo A. Panozzo, Gianni N. Panozzo, Giona R. Panozzo, Ryan and Rebecca Coffman and Brianna Dayton; great-great-grandson, Noah Michael Hewkin; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Jeanette Remillard, of Kankakee, and Evelyn and Mario Buono, of Bourbonnais; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Corine Cahan, of Ocean Springs, Miss. and Connie Cahan, of Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Merle; one sister, Carolyn Moberg; six brothersin-law, Hubert Remillard, Duane Mau, Richard Moberg and Merle, Clyde and Robert Diefenbach; and three sisters-inlaw, Lois, Evelyn and Juanita Diefenbach.
