A memorial service for Ellen E. (Kuest) Handy of Burlington, formerly of Sumas, will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Sumas American Legion Hall in Sumas.
Mrs. Handy died Saturday, July 22, 2000, at Skagit Valley Hospital. She was 76.
Born June 1, 1924, to John and Bertha (Strose) Kuest in Romania, she lived in Sumas for many years, where she worked.
In 1995, she moved to Burlington and volunteered at an adult assisted living home.
Mrs. Handy was active in the Northwest Singles Club, where she met her companion, Jim Larson Sr.
She loved to bake and she enjoyed gardening and garage sales. She also owned collections of angels, clowns and giraffes.
Her husband, Marlowe Handy son Ronnie Curtiss sister Paula Harris and one grandchild died previously.
Survivors include her companion, of the family home, daughters Linda Hahn of Bellingham and Debbie Noble of Ferndale, son Gary Curtiss of Nome, Alaska, stepdaughter Lynn Bezona of Ferndale, stepson Mark Handy of Bellingham, sisters Emma Murphy and Erna Ferguson, both of Chilliwack, B.C., and Pat Musgrove of Kamloops, B.C., brother Harvey Kuest of Chilliwack and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.
Arrangements are by Greenacres Funeral Home near Ferndale.
