J. Bruce "Poppy" Humphrey, 80, of St. Joseph, Mo., passed away on Nov. 6, 2006, at his home.
Mr. Humphrey was born Sept. 5, 1926, in Gypsum, Kan., where he was raised. He had resided in St. Joseph since 1965.
He married Arlene J. Allen, who survives of the home. On Dec. 22, they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
He served in the United States Navy Seabees during World War II. He was a field engineer for the National Cash Register Corp. for over 40 years until retiring in 1988.
Mr. Humphrey was a member of Huffman Memorial United Methodist Church.
Mr. Humphrey was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Nellie Anderson (Aitken) Humphrey; his brother, Bobby Humphrey; and his grandson, James Ethan Humphrey.
Additional survivors: his son, Mark Humphrey, and his wife, Phyllis of King City, Mo.; two daughters, Mary Ann Haenni, and her husband, Randy of Savannah, Mo.; and Michele Marks, and her husband, Martin of Bigelow, Mo.; two sisters, Margaret Lundquist of Gypsum; and Barbara Gibbs of Vermillion, Kan., eight grandchildren; Jeff Wilfong, and his wife, Catherine; Erin and Kelly Humphrey; Elise, Beth Ann and Grace Haenni; and Mackenzie and Zachary Marks; and Sophie, Lily and Maggie Loving, who were like grandchildren to him; his great-grandson, Caleb Wilfong; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Nov. 9, 2006, at Huffman Memorial United Methodist Church, St. Joseph, Mo.
Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph, Mo.
