FUNERAL IS HELD FOR JOHN G BECKER

Funeral services for John G Becker were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the North Henderson Methodist Church. the Rev. Thomas Roach officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Vernon cemetery.
Casket bearers were Ernie Benson, Cam Dickerson, H. J. Johnson, W. M. Mathers, Al Rule and W.T. Woodside. The beautiful floral tributes were cared for by Mrs. Harold Shaver, Mrs. Earl Holmes and Mrs. Frank Peterson.
Mrs. Mike Pitman sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," "When They Ring Those Golden Bells" and Going Down the Valley One by One," accompanied by Mrs. Ray Newcomer at the piano.
Mr. Becker passed away Friday evening Dec. 19 at the Galesburg Cottage hospital after an illness of six days.
John Gerdis Becker was born in Canum Ostfreseland, Germany, Nov. 29, 1874. He was the seventh child of Johanna Devriese and Gerd Friedrich Becker. In 1882 he came to America with his parents and settled at Minok, IL. On April 24 1907 he married Mabel Milly Clute, who preceded him in death 12 years ago; to this union were born eight children who survive the father: Mrs Arthur Swanson, Rio; Mrs. Ivan Higgins, Wataga; Mrs. Dean Peterson, North Henderson; Mrs. Franklin McKay, Quincy; Mrs. Donald Dowdy, Galesburg; Pvt. John R. Becker, Seward, Alaska; and Mrs. Wayne Carlson, New Windsor. He also leaves eight grandchildren; two brothers, George Becker, Detroit, Michigan, and Meint Becker, Manson Iowa and two sisters, Mrs. Gerd Abens Morrison, IL., and Mrs. Hallie Meils, Manson Iowa. Besides his parents, a sister and brother precede him in death. Mr. Becker lived for a number of years in Alexis and 18 years ago moved to North Henderson, where he had since resided and followed the carpenter's trade.
Those attending the funeral from out of this community were Meint Becker, Mrs. Hallie Meils and Heine from Manson, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. John Meils, Toluca, IL, and Mrs. Lyle D. Kamm, Low Point, IL.

On Jurn Gerdis Becker death record his father's name is recorded as Frederick Becker and his mother's maiden name as Johanna Meints. It also shows his late wife as being named Mabel Nellie Clute instead of Mabel Milly Clute. This Information was given by Mrs Dean Peterson, his daughter Francis L Becker.
