Died Saturday, December 6, 2014, at his residence with his loving family at his side. He was born January 31, 1942, in Washington, Georgia, the son of Woodrow B. and Eva R. (Couch) Brown. On January 20, 1979, he married Mary Ellen Harris in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and she survives. Joe was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marines where he served during the Vietnam War. He was employed with the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #190 in Ann Arbor, retiring in 1998. He will always be remembered for his love of family, gardening and woodworking. Survivors besides his wife include five children: Synthia (William) Winnie, Scott Edward (Trinity) Brown, Suzanne Brown, Julie (Jeff) Barnhart and David Tomasko; seven grandchildren: Ashley, Nicholas, Amelia, Joe, Jordan, Addaline and Alaina; two sisters: Betty Campbell and Peggy Wellman; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Hatchard. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at Janowiak Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Washtenong Memorial Park, Ann Arbor, Michigan with Military Honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at noon.
