Funeral services for Otis W. Babcock, who passed away August 15 after a lingering illness which began in May, were held with prayer Sunday, August 18 in his home in Delmar, Iowa, and, in the Community Methodist church. Rev. A. L. Eddy, pastor of the Congregational Church in Maquoketa, officiated. Burial was in the Seventh Day Baptist cemetery in Welton.
Mr. Babcock spent his childhood on a farm in Welton Township where he attended country school until 1879 when he attended Maquoketa High School, graduating in 1883. He later attended college at Milton, Wis., and Iowa State Normal at Cedar Falls for short periods.
When about fourteen he was baptized and joined the Welton Seventh Day Baptist Church having acted as Sabbath school teacher, superintendent, and president of the incorporation.
His mature years were almost equally occupied in farming, teaching, and in other business enterprises, editing the Delmar Journal a number of years, insurance and real estate, and in public offices as president of the Delmar Consolidated School Board, councilman, mayor, and justice of the peace; the latter office, he held until his passing.
