He passed away at the age of 83, while sleeping. His former wife Liz passed away in 2001, they had been married for 41 years. He was survived by his wife Marilyn, whom he met as a result of their both being members of St. Fabian. Also survived by his children, Manuel, Elizabeth Teresa (Terry), his daughter-in-law Lynn, and his grandsons; Will, Michael, Matthew and Trey. He graduated from West Point in 1952. He retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years, as a Lt. Colonel. He had served in Korea, and while in Vietnam he led an infantry battalion. He earned a Silver Star, a Bronze Star, and other medals. He was awarded a Masters of Languages from the University of Madrid, in Spain. He spoke Spanish, Russian and French fluently. He taught languages at West Point. He also earned a Masters in Engineering from Stanford while he was a Professor of Military Service. He retired in 1974, and then was employed by the Society of Automotive Engineers for 24 years.
