He was a member of the Eureka Apostolic Christian Church.
Walter was born July 5, 1911, at Eureka, a son of John and Emma Beer Zimmerman. He married Mabel M. Whittington on March 11, 1959, at Metamora. She died March 11, 2005.
Survivors include one son, Larry (and Pam) Zimmerman of Kailua, Hawaii; three daughters, Linda (and Gene) Smith, Karen (and Walter) Langley and Alice Zimmerman, all of Eureka; three sisters, Dorothy Zimmerman, Evelyn (and Don) Gudeman and Gladys (and Sam) Schmidgall, all of Eureka; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
Walter was previously employed at O.A. Smith in Eureka, Ulrich Manufacturing in Roanoke and was a lifetime farmer in the Eureka area.
