Howard Richard Herron, age 91, of Coon Rapids passed away on Friday, December 5, 2014 at Regency Park in Jefferson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Coon Rapids with Pastor Alan Miller officiating. Friends may call at the Johnson and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids after 5:00 P.M. on Monday where there will be a prayer service held at 6:30 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Patti Patrick and congregational hymns “Rock of Ages” and “Amazing Grace”. Casket bearers will be Billy Olesen, Olie Olesen, Dino Patrick, Lucas Richardson, Brian Olesen, Tom Sievers, Lyle Olesen and Matt Olesen. Honorary casket bearers will be Randy Olesen, Mike Olesen, Steve Golay, Dennis Olesen, Nick Olesen and Dan Richardson. Burial will be in the Willow Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids with military honors conducted by the Coon Rapids American Legion.

Born on April 16, 1923 in Guthrie County, on his family’s farm south of Coon Rapids, he was the son of Guy Richard and Elizabeth Wilomina (Anderson) Herron. His family moved to a farm north of Coon Rapids when he was five years old and he attended country school near the farm. Howard enlisted in the United States Army in 1946 and served two years during the Korean war and was stationed in the Philippines. He was married to Eunice Olesen on June 17, 1949. The couple lived in Bayard, Jewel, Glidden, and Cambridge before moving to Coon Rapids. Howard worked for John Deere as a parts manager for 15 years and for 3M as a purchasing agent for 17 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Coon Rapids for over 75 years. Howard belonged to the “Johnny Poppers” Two Cylinder Tractor Club and drove his John Deere “B”, his “630” and his “520” tractors in many parades over the years. Howard also had a love for Percheron. horses He was a devoted husband and father and he was called a “Dream Grandpa” by his grandchildren.

Howard is survived wife Eunice of 65 years; a son David A. Herron and wife Janet of St. Paul, MN; a daughter Deanna Jacobsen and husband Jeff of Audubon; five grandsons: Christopher Herron and wife Sandra of Winona, MN, Jason Herron and wife Shannah of St. Paul, MN, and Justin Jacobsen, Theodore Jacobsen and Dalton Jacobsen all of Audubon; five great grandchildren: Richard, Nicholas, Hannah, Oliver, and Lillian; a sister Mildred Herron of Audubon; three sisters-in-law: Naomi Golay of Coon Rapids, Claribel Sievers and husband Merlin of Coon Rapids and Mary Ann Olson and husband Lester of Vail; two brothers-in-law: Earl Olesen and wife Jessie of Audubon and Max Olesen and wife Karen of Coon Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Louise Herron, a daughter Marilyn Louise in infancy and a great granddaughter Stephanie.
