BEACHWOOD – Alan M. Slaybaugh, age 64, of Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, at the Ahuja Medical Center in Beachwood.

Alan was born March 4, 1950, in Ashtabula, the son of Alfred and Marian (Kuhn) Slaybaugh and had been an area resident most of his life.


He was a construction worker by trade and loved working with his hands.

He enjoyed working with computers, working on word puzzles, and had a great sense of humor.

He is survived by his siblings, Dixie (Larry) Liggett of Asheville, N.C., Gail (David) Alaniz of Canton, Ga., Gary (Terry) Slaybaugh of Ashtabula and Lori Slaybaugh of Kennesaw, Ga.; six nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

At his request, there will be no formal service. A gathering of family and friends will take place TODAY, Thursday, Dec. 4th, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the American Legion Dewey-Howlett Post #103, 1804 West 19th St. in Ashtabula. Burial will be in Saybrook Cemetery.

Atlanta, GA – Alfred Battles Slaybaugh, 82, of Jennings, Florida, died Sunday, June 12, 2005 at Haven House Hospice in Atlanta, Georgia.

He was born November 26, 1922, in Ashtabula, the son of Harry Battles and Pearl Mae (Johnston) Slaybaugh. After high school, Mr. Slaybaugh attended Baylor University in Texas, and also served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star during his service.

Mr. Slaybaugh was an owner/operator for Eazor Express and member of the Teamsters Local #377 until his retirement in 1985, and then traveled the Contintental U.S., Alaska, and Hawaii with his wife of 23 years, Sylvia. He was a member of both the VFW and the Masons.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia C. (Phelps), whom he married in November 1982; his five children: Dixie (Larry) Liggett of Asheville, NC, Gail (David) Alaniz of Marietta, GA, Alan Slaybaugh of Conneautville, PA, Gary (Terry) Slaybaugh of Ashtabula, and Lori Slaybaugh, Kennesaw, GA; three step-children: Nancy (Jim) Lee of Conneaut, and Terry Schrock and Mary (Donald) Clugh, both of Jefferson; 6 grandchildren: Patrick (Tracy) Zoblisein, Acworth, GA, Bethany Zoblisein, Marietta, GA, Christy Liggett, Greensboro, NC, Caleb Liggett, Asheville, NC, Danielle (Chris) Johnson, Canton, GA, and Cody Slaybaugh of Ashtabula; 8 step-grandchildren: Shelly (Rick) Markijohn, West Springfield, PA; Steven (Lori) Lee, N. Kingsville; Terry Schrock, Orlando, FL; Joni Martin, Andover; Andy Schrock, Conneaut; Samantha Schrock, Jefferson; Julie (James) Field, Flovilla, GA; and Scott Stumbo, Jefferson. 13 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Thomas Slaybaugh of Chandler, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marian D. (Kuhn) in 1972; one sister, Dorothy (Burkhart); and one brother, David in infancy.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 17, at 2:00 p.m. at Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula. Rev. Donna Van Trees, Pastor of Saybrook United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be immediately following at Saybrook Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday evening, June 16, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave.
