Dick Vander Meer Sr.
July 26, 1927 - November 27, 2014

Dick Vander Meer, Sr. passed into the loving arms of his Savior on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2014. He was 87 years old. Dick was born in Oppenhuizen, Friesland, the Netherlands on July 26, 1927. He was the eldest of eight children. He survived the Nazi Occupation in World War II and immigrated to the U. S. at age 19. He arrived in California and found immediate work milking cows in Artesia. This is where he met his future wife, Alie Vander Dussen. They were married for 65 years and were blessed with 4 children, 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He eventually went into business for himself and was a dairyman for over 50 years. Dick was a member of the Reformed Church where he served as an elder for many years and also taught Sunday School. He was on the board of Teen Challenge and had a heart for helping those less fortunate. His hobbies included bowling, golf and vacationing with relatives and friends -- and enjoyed many years traveling in their motorhome.

He was preceded in death by his son Sybrand. He is survived by his wife Alie; his sons, Dick (Elizabeth) and Alan (Isabel) and daughter, Terri Lynn Boschma (Harvey); his sister, Durkje Holkema and brother Geart van der Meer, both of the Netherlands. His grandchildren; Karyn, Eric, Jason (Tonya), Katie, Dirk, Charlotte, Autumn (Cory), Falan, Rachel (Matthew), Amanda, Justin (Jessica), Ryan (Courtney) and Kristin and his great-grandchildren; Koen, Kaden, Owen, Layna, Elin and Henry.

Dick will be remembered as a kind, compassionate, gentle, generous, loving husband, grandfather and great-grandfather, brother and friend.

"But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." I Corinthians 15:57
