Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Charles Davenport officiating. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.
Verna was born Aug. 19, 1922, in Goodnight to Lee Roy and Clara King Shores. She married Floyd B. Massie on July 5, 1941, in Goodnight.
She was a homemaker who loved to sew, work in her yard, working with Meals on Wheels, community activities, Claude basketball games and teaching Sunday school at First Baptist Church of Claude.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd B. Massie; a brother, Alba Shores; and six sisters, Cressie Bailey, Maude Talley, Ruth Matheson, Eunice Morris, Helen McDowell and Inez Shores.
Survivors include a son, Kent Massie and wife Lori of Amarillo; a daughter, Rhonda Hood and husband Bill of Merkel; five grandchildren, Jessica Dougherty and husband Joe, Trevor Hood, Cenee Faught and husband Derek, Hannah Massie and Kayla Massie; and a great-grandson, Daxtin.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
