He was a first lieutenant, U.S. Army infantry division, during World War II, stationed in France, and was awarded the Purple Heart, among other awards and decorations. In Sioux City, Byron was a managing partner with Grandy-Pratt Insurance Co., retiring in 1988 after 42yrs. with the company.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters Association, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Briar Cliff board of directors, Wilson Trailer board, Lions Club, Tyrian Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M., Sioux City Country Club and Phi Gamma Fraternal Order.
Survivors include his wife; children: Brad (Chris) Deck of Newport Beach, Calif. and Karen (Lee) Goodwin of Sioux City; 3 grandchildren; a brother Paul W. (Marie) Deck Sr. of Sioux City; and nephews and cousins.
