Alexander William was the son of Alexander Craigmiles born about 1772 in Ireland died about 1820 in Kentucky. His mother was Agnes Unknown Craigmiles Smith born 1779 New York and died in 1849 in Pike County, ILL.
Alexander was a very adventurous person who went to the California gold fields in 1850 and came home with enough money to buy a bigger farm for his family. He was very supportive of President Abraham Lincoln and lied about his age to join the Union Army. He claimed he was younger than he actually was. He died in the Battle of Champion Hills, Raymond, Miss. He was 43 yrs old.
