Mollie served as chairman of the Counseling and Pastoral Care Center of Austin, as well as serving as a board member of the Austin Symphony Board. She was an associate life member of the Settlement Home and worked as a docent in the University of Texas Art Department. Together with her husband, she was a charter member of Baylor's Endowed Scholarship Society and they remained strong supporters of Baylor University.
Mollie loved classical music, gardening, and her Sunday school class, but her greatest love was her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Billy Waldrop, and son, Gordon. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, George M. Cowden; children George III and wife Shirley Cowden; Graves Cowden; Gaylynn and husband Ken Kendall; grandchildren Hallie Day and husband Jason Wallace; Rachel Metts; George IV and wife Kensie Cowden; Kristian, Weston, Brooke and Cierra Cowden; and great-grandchildren Sadie Jane and Charlotte Rose Wallace.
Visitation will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, North Lamar location. Services to be held in the Smith Family Chapel at Riverbend Church with Gordon Smith officiating. A reception following the service will be at Fellowship Hall. Burial will be at the Texas State Cemetery following the reception.
Pallbearers are George III, Graves, Ken, George IV, Weston and Jason. Honorary pallbearers are the members of her Sunday School class.
The family would like to thank our friends at The Gathering and the staff at Arden Courts for their love and care for Mollie.
