"KING RITES SET — Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 12:45 p.m. at the Church of Divine Guidance, 1518 S. Grammercy Place, for Mrs. Leontyne King, noted Los Angeles resident. The Rev. Clayton Russell will officiate. Mrs. King died last Friday night at California Hospital in the Cancer Center. She had been confined to the hospital for several weeks prior to her death. Well known as a civic and social leader, Mrs. King was a native of Chicago. She moved to Los Angeles in 1938 with her husband, Celes King Jr., and their son, Celes King III, a college administrator and businessman. Active in religious and political circles, Mrs. King was one of the co-founders of the Church of Divine Guidance. She was also a 12-year member of the Los Angeles Library Commission. Just a few weeks ago, a room was named in her honor at the Leon H. Washington Jr. branch library (Vernon branch). She served on the library commission longer than any other black in Los Angeles. She also served as a national vice president of the National Library Association. Interment will take place in the mausoleum at Inglewood Cemetery, with the Angelus Funeral home in charge."
