Hazel was born Sept. 30, 1921, in Balfour, N.D., to Andrew and Ida Anderson Jacobson. She graduated from high school in Butte, N.D., in 1940. She later moved to Kellogg, Idaho, and worked in the Wardner Hospital.
She met Jack Adams in Kellogg and they were married in June 1942. Jack was inducted into the Army six weeks after their son Gordon was born in December 1944. In 1951 a second son, Donald, was born. Jack was killed in a mine accident in 1954. Hazel gave birth to a third son, Jack, seven months later.
In 1958, she married Stuart Shreve, Gordon's Little League coach.
