He served as the National Portrait Councilman for the State of Utah for the Professional Photographers of America, and as president of Ben Lomond Enterprises. He was a founding member of the Intermountain Professional Photographers Association, serving as its president; member of the board of directors of the Rocky Mountain Professional Photographers Association.

In community and cultural affairs, he served as board member and president of the Eccles Community Art Center; member of the board of directors of Ballet West, Union Station Foundation, Utah Musical Theater, and the Merriner S. Eccles Foundation; on the board of advisors to the Odgen Symphony-Ballet Association; co-founder of the John Eccles Family Foundation with his wife, Vera.
