Death of George C Baker, for years a resident of Covington, came Sunday evening and was not unexpected. For months he had been very ill at his East Washington Street home and death came a relief from incessant suffering.

He was born in Lewis county New York July 18, 1822 and was therefore past 87 years old at death. He came to Covington years ago and in the sixties entered the service of his country, a faithful soldier, in the War of the Rebellion.
The funeral services, conducted by Rev F K Dagherty, of the Methodist church, of which Mr. Baker was a member, were held from the home, Tuesday afternoon, interment taking place in Mt Hope cemetery.

He leaves a wife and several grown children and grand children, together with a large circle of relatives and friends who mourn his death.

The customary salute, three guns, was fired by the Post, Monday morning, upon the announcement of his death.
