Lucy was twice married, first to Joel Lincoln Berry, a dairy farmer and the father of her nine children (eight of whom survived to adulthood): Benjamin Butus Berry (1889-1963); Bessie Bertina Berry-Allen (1891-1951); Elmer Francis Berry (1895-1977); Eugene Edward Berry (1899-1992); Lula Lucine Berry-White (1903-1999); Peggy Ellen Berry-James (1908-2001); Mary Matilda Berry (1910-1912); Henry Jefferson Berry (1912-1997), and; Hazel Carolyn Berry-Burns-Crawford (1914-1981).

Lucy's second marriage was to John Wessling (1874-1966). He was a native of California having been born to German immigrant parents. He and both of his parents Aegidius
and Barbara are all buried in Tulare Cemetery, Tulare, Tulare Co., CA.

Lucy wife of John Wessling died at age 91 in her home at Tipton, California. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alpheus Knight, who came to California in a covered wagon. Lucy's first marriage was to Joel L. Berry in 1888 - whose father was one of the 3 men who accompanied General Fremont in the unsuccessful search for the ill-fated Donner party. In 1923 she married John Wessling a lifelong area resident in Merced, California. They made their home on the avenue 160 West Tipton, California. Survivors other than her husband include 3 sons. Eugene Berry, Elmer Berry, Henry Berry. 3 daughters Mrs. Neal (Lula) White, Mrs. William (Hazel) Crawford, Mrs. Thomas (Alpha) James. Lucy had 12 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren.
