TAUNTON – Edward F. Aleixo, devoted husband of sixty-three years to Lillian (Vieira) Aleixo, died at his Taunton home surrounded by his loving family on Nov. 16, 2014.
He was 89.

Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Francisco and Mary G. (Semas) Aleixo.

A graduate of Stonehill College, he earned his master’s degree from Bridgewater State University.

Ed was an educator for most of his life having taught in the Dighton and Taunton School systems.

He was a former headmaster of Taunton High School and past Superintendent of Taunton Public Schools.

He also taught at the US Army War College.

An Army Veteran of WW II, he attained the rank of Colonel in the USAR.

A retired Director of Surplus Properties of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Ed served on various boards of trustees including Morton Hospital & Medical Center and the Taunton Public Library.

He was a communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle Church and P.E.R. of the Taunton Elks Lodge 150.

In addition to his wife, he leaves three daughters, Susan Kelly and her husband Neil, Cheryl Bonaparte and her husband Francis, and Rosemary Caras and her husband Nicholas; seven grandchildren that he cherished, Patrick and his wife Meredith, Sarah and Elizabeth Kelly, Amy Smith and her husband Dan, Ian Bonaparte, and Courtney and Alexandra Caras; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also the brother of the late Albert, Theodore “Jeff”, James, and Edmund “Sam” Aleixo, Blanche Francis, Angela Lallier, Elsie Crowder and Ida Vass.

Funeral services were held privately.

Arrangements are by the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton.
