FUNERAL OF MAJOR W. J. LUTZ HELD ON SUNDAY FORENOON
IMPOSING PROCESSION MOVED FROM CHRIST CHURCH

Long and Sorrowing Procession Moved From Church to Railroad Station Yesterday Morning.
With all the military honors due a deceased officer, and with solemn ceremonies and an imposing procession, the funeral of the late Major William J. Lutz of the First Infantry, attached to the Ninth Infantry as commander of the Third Battalion at the time of his sudden death from paralysis on Friday evening, was held from the Episcopal church yesterday morning at 9 o'clock. Following the obsequies at the church, which were conducted by Chaplain Wood of the Ninth Infantry Regiment, the remains were escorted to the I & G.N. railway station and at noon they were sent on their way to Lafayette, Indiana, where interment will take place.
The military funeral from Christ Church was the largest and most imposing ever witnessed in Laredo, the entire Ninth Infantry regiment, band and officers, officers of other regular army and national guard organizations and numerous civilian friends attending the obsequies.
The funeral was in charge of Lieutenant Colonel Harry R. Lee of the Ninth Infantry, while the escort to the funeral consisted of the Third Battalion of the Ninth Infantry, in command of Major John A. Hunt. The Ninth Infantry Band headed the funeral procession, while the pallbearers walked along side. The bugler who sounded taps was furnished by Company B, Ninth Infantry.
