Phyllis Wiest Gilbert, 76, wife of the late Dr. Edward R. Gilbert, of Reiffton passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014, peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family.

Phyllis was born in Reading to the late Dr. Philip R. and Carolyn Flatt Wiest. She was a graduate of Reading High School and received a BS in Chemistry from Wilson College.

Phyllis was a faithful and dedicated member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Reading where she was a former President of Church Council. She was also the former President of Junior League of Reading, the Judge of Election for Exeter Township for many years and was inducted into the Exeter High School Academic Hall of Fame for her development of the Exeter Volunteer Program.

Phyllis loved to travel and had been all over the world reaching six of the seven continents. Whether it was with friends or family, she was always prepared for a new adventure, camcorder in hand. Though Phyllis loved to travel, she lived for her family. She did her best to always attend every sporting event, play, concert and family function.

Phyllis is survived by two daughters: Ruth G., wife of Rick Schwartz of Southold, NY, Carolyn G., wife of Philip Mayo of Sinking Spring and two sons: Philip E., husband of Lori Gilbert of Exeter and John W., husband of Maxine Gilbert of Stinson Beach, CA. She is the proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother Philip, husband of Tracy Wiest of Annandale, VA, and one sister Betsy, wife of Jeff Power of Wyomissing.

Phyllis is predeceased by one brother, George H., husband of Elinor K. Wiest.

Friends may call on Sunday, November 23 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Lutz Funeral Home Inc, 2100 Perkiomen Ave, Reading, PA 19606.

A Service will be held on Monday, November 24th at 11:30 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 521 Walnut Street, Reading, PA 19601. Interment will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter.
