Determining Sydneys' maiden name has been a long process based mostly on circumstantial evidence. In several census', Mary Willoughby was found living with Sydney and Irvin C. Baldwin with no relationship mentioned. Mary was the right age to be Sydney's mother but no hard evidence to make that determination. The only record that was helpful was the death record of her daughter, Elizabeth Armstrong Baldwin Farley. That record had several serious mistakes including the name of her father, Irvin C. Baldwin, being given by the informant as Doug Baldwin. However, Elizabeth's mothers last name was given as Willeughby. It was enough, even though misspelled, to confirm my suspicion that the maiden name of Sydney was Willoughby and was, most likely, correct. (GES)
