James was born in Livingston, Texas on November 29, 1920 to Sim and Sarah Francis Capps Collins.

He was a proud Army veteran of World War II. He married Oma Fritz on November 7, 1948. He was a self-employed logger for many years. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, camping with his family, doing woodworking and playing 42 with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father as well as one great grandson, Trevor.

His survivors include his wife of 58 years, Oma Collins, his daughter, Jeanelle Cude, and son Bobby Collins and wife Becky. He is also survived by grandchildren Bridgette, Amber, Garet, Richard (Buger), Britney, Alana and Chelsee; and great-grandchildren Nikki, Tarah, Casey, Kylie, Paislie, Rease, Lauren, Decklan, James and McKenna.
