Discharged Oct. 7, 1915 at Calgary, with the Rank of Private, due to physical unfitness.
Re-enlisted March 9, 1916 at Calgary in the 113th Battalion and served in France with the 43rd Battalion.
Granted permission to marry in 1919.
Demobilized July 7, 1919 with the Rank of Corporal.
Birth: June 28, 1894 at Barrow in Furness, England; 2nd attestation shows June 28, 1895, however, his birth was registered at Barrow-in-Furness in 1894.

The 1921 Alberta census finds [William] Herbert Stanley, 26, wife Elizabeth, 24, both born in England, son, Herbert, 5 months, born in Alberta, living at Shepard, Alberta, with Herbert's parents, Noah and Margaret. [William] Herbert was working as a Boilermaker.

STANLEY--March 1st, 1970, William Herbert, aged 75 years, beloved husband of Mrs. Elizabeth (Nora) Stanley, 2737 - 15th Avenue S.E., passed away at the Colonel Belcher Hospital following a brief illness. Besides his beloved wife he also leaves one daughter, Mrs. Stuart T. (Margaret) Conlin, Maple Creek, Sask.; two sons, Capt. James Gordon Stanley, Winnipeg, Man., and Mr. William Herbert Stanley, Jr., North Bay, Ontario; eight grandchildren; three sisters; Mrs. S. (Alice) Keen and Miss Edith Stanley, Calgary; and Mrs. H. (Madge) Barley, Mission City, B.C. Born in Barrow-in-Furness, England, he came to Calgary in 1913 and resided in Calgary since. He was a veteran of the First World War, having served with the 48th Battalion. Mr. Stanley was employed with the C.P.R. Ogden Shops for a number of years and then with the Colonel Belcher Hospital until his retirement. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion (Alberta No. ) Branch.
