Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2004 with Rev. John Dillard of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment followed at Crestview Memorial Park. Arrangements were entrusted to Hampton Vaughan Crestview.
Robert was born October 2, 1915 in Minco, Oklahoma to the late Andrew and Jessie Pearl (Ketner) Arnold. He was raised on a farm and worked in the fields. In 1936, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) and helped the Bright Angel Trail in Grand Canyon, AZ. He returned to Minco, OK. in 1937, and later moved to Roswell, NM. in 1940. On June 14, 1941, he married Helen Mercer. Robert worked in alfalfa mills, ice plants, and loading docks...anything to provide for his family. In 1946, he became a driver for Hill Freight Lines, later known as Illinois California Express (ICX), and drove for them until his retirement in Albuquerque, NM. in 1977. In May of 2003, Robert and Helen moved to Wichita Falls.
Robert loved his family, enjoyed his friends, especially his fishing buddies. He loved to fish, camp, and to drive. He would drive anytime, anywhere, and would talk about all his adventures on the road. He loved his roses. Always true to his word, he was a man of conviction. He was quiet in his faith, but a strong Christian. We know that he is home, and we will miss him very much.
He is preceded in death by five brothers, Raymond Arnold, Daniel Arnold, Edmond Arnold, Ennis Arnold, and Rex Arnold; and one sister, Virginia Gentry.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Helen Arnold of Wichita Falls; daughter Christina Peterson and husband Harvey of Wichita Falls; two brothers, Carl Arnold of Roswell, NM., and Andrew Arnold of Tacoma, WA.; sister, Adine Mercer of Kingsberg, CA.; six grandchildren, Kathy Naidicz of Austin, Brian Peterson of Wichita Falls, John DiFilippo of Orange Park, FL., Mike Peterson of Madison, WI., Angeli Fernandez of Champaign, IL., and Robert DiFilippo of Wichita Falls; two great grandchildren, Darvena Day of Ft. Worth, and Shelby DiFilippo of Sinton, TX.; one great great grandchild, Lorenzo Juarez of Ft. Worth; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2004 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Lung Association
