Agatha (Gay) Wits, age 97 of Green Bay, formerly of Kewaunee died on Friday, November 14, 2014 following a short illness.

She was born on January 13, 1917 in Stoughton, WI to the late Kenneth and Tilla (Sveum) Wright.

Gay graduated from Stoughton High School and U. W. Madison with a degree in Home Economics. She began teaching at Kewaunee High School in 1940 where she met Dr. Erie (Witcpalek) Wits and they were married at Holy Rosary Church in Kewaunee, WI on June 11, 1941. At that time female teachers were not allowed to teach when married, so she was forced to quit and become a full time wife and homemaker.

She was a long time member of Holy Rosary Church and sang in the choir. She was president of TOPS for many years. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, cribbage, canasta and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, traveling and takng numerous cruises. She was an expert in Japanese Bunka (embroidery), winning many state awards in Florida, where they lived for many years after Doc retired.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law: three daughters and sons-in-law; ten grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren and two sisters.

In addition to her husband, Erie, Gay was preceded in death by her son: Billy; sister: Marion Flamm; in-laws: Lloyd (Mary) Witcpalek; Dr. Ruth Witcpalek; Til Kittleson and Dean Colden.

Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 22 at Holy Rosary Church, Kewaunee until the time of services.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. by Fr. James Dillenberg.

Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Autumn’s Promise Assisted Living, 1700 Spartan Rd., New Franken, WI 54229 in memory of Gay.

The family wants to give a special thank you to the staffs at St. Vincent Hospital; Autumn’s Promise Assisted Living and Heartland Hospice for their exceptional care and concern.
