Another mystery is the apparent abandonment of his wife. In 1854, in fact, on his arrival in Washington, after a period of work in New York, Baltimore and Mexico City, the artist was accompanied by a mysterious Mary Brumidi, that everyone believed was his wife.
What we know for sure is that in 1859 his apparent girlfriend, Clara Brumidi Scarselli, died at the young age of 36 years. After a short time, as in the past, a new partner appears in his life, and once again is a sixteen year old Lola Germon, who will give birth to the youngest artist, Laurence.
