He worked at Haynes International for 33 years, retiring in 2000 and was a Phi Del member.
He is survived by his caretaker, Tabatha Elrod who was by his side at the time of his passing; one brother, Guy Akers; special friend, Don Wappel; and his beloved dog, Genie.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and one brother.
The funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Enis officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery
