Bertha Ahrends, nee Meenan, was born at Nesse, Ostfriesland, Germany January 5, 1841. In the spring of 1881, she came to America, locating in Benson and had resided there since. In the fall of that same year she united in marriage with Wm. Bleman, who died five years later. On Feb. 1, 1887, she entered a second marriage, with Eilt Ahrends, who preceded her in death in 1910. Since then she had lived alone until old age and sickness made it necessary to take her to the hospital in Streator. Later on she had to be taken to the Peoria state hospital.
