J. Walter Habel, 65, of 652 James street, city, died of a heart attack at his home at 7:30 last night. Prior to his retirement October 1, he was a garage foreman for the P.P.&L. Co. on Buttonwood street. Employed by the power company 43 years, he began his PP&L career in 1924 as a repairman in the Hazleton area. Later he advanced to automobile repairman first class and became foreman in 1956.
Mr. Habel was born in Morea, the son of the late Joseph G. and Elizabeth Jones Habel, and lived in Hazleton most of his life. He was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church and the Harlor Bible Class, and of the Independent Order of Americans. He attended schools in Frackville and this city.
Surviving are his wife, the former Ruth Walck; one son, Joseph W. Habel, this city; one daughter, Mrs. Millard (Lois) Fritz, Depew, N.Y.; two brothers, John L. Habel, Frackville, and Robert, Allentown; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Monday morning at 11 o'clock from the Krapf and Hughes Funeral Home, with Rev. Erwin Bennett officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Laurel Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
