Thomas and his family decided to stay in Ireland and not venture into the new world of the colonies with his brothers. He married Alice Foster September 8, 1702 "at Richard Boye's house, Ballinderry Meeting, County of Armagh" and had three known children: James b 11/3/1703 in Corking, County Down, , Thomas b. 7/4/1705, and Abigail Harlan b. 4/24/1708. She and her husband are buried at "Lurgan, Parish of Shankill, County Armagh, Ireland" according to information in Alpheus Harlan's History and Genealogy of the Harlan Family.
