Veteran, US MARINE CORPS.

"..John was preceded in death by his parents John William Sr. and Viola L. Pegoda, two sisters, Ernie P. Herbst and Opal Pegoda. Survivors include his loving wife of sixty four years, Ruth Pegoda, five children, eleven grand children and thirteen great grand children. Four sisters, Reba Sylvester, Mary Ann Cummings, Sue Skidmore, Catherine Sanders and one brother, Charles (Pete) Pegoda, many nieces, nephews and friends. John attended Huntsville schools and joined the USA Marine Corps in 1948 to 1952 and was stationed in Pearl Harbor where he met and married the love of his life, Ruth. Later he was stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. After his military service he worked for AT&T beginning in 1952 and retired after 32 years of service. Retirement wasn't for him so he went to work for a commercial hauling company. After 17 years he retired for the second time.

John was a fireman for the Soquel, CA. Fire Dept., a member of the Masons, Toastmasters in Santa Cruz, CA. and the Lions Club in Auburn, CA. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and was an avid reader. He was a loving husband and a dedicated family man. He was a role model for his children and those who knew him. He taught his children the importance of hard work and that family comes first. John and Ruth moved to Roseville, Ca. to a smaller home after John became ill until his passing. John's favorite actor was John Wayne and lived by Wayne's favorite passage, “Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway.” John's Celebration of Life was held on October 12, 2014 in Roseville, CA." from Nina Hansen.
