As the light of a new day gently dawns in the eastern horizon, just so does the light of an eternal day dawn for the passing redeemed of the Lord. So on Feb. 21st, in the quietude of the early morning the spirit of a good man bade farewell to a way-worn body and entered the dawn of an eternal day.
Samuel David Porter was born Oct. 11 1861, died Feb. 21st, 1841. he was married to Miss Etta Pearce in Feb. 1893. He spent his entire life in the community in which he was born.
Sam, as he was familiarly called, was quiet and unassuming, and honest with his fellow-man. His hands were never too busy with his farm tasks to pause, and without a murmur minister to his invalid wife, who preceded him in death three years ago. Truly he was called a good man.
He leaves to mourn his passing, two brothers, Jimmy and Johnnie Porter of Terry's and a number of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church by Rev. A.G. Melton of Atwood and Rev. E.R. Ramer of Milan. Interment followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
