Kenneth E. Batzka

Kenneth E. Batzka, 79, of Morgan Township, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2014.
He was born February 22, 1935 in LaPorte, to Walter and Dora (Werner) Batzka and graduated from Morgan Township High School in 1953.
His career took him from the Herald-Argus newspaper to Allis-Chalmers in LaPorte, then McGill's Manufacturing and Indiana Steel in Valparaiso and time spent driving a school bus for Morgan Township Schools. All the while he practiced his primary avocation as a lifetime farmer, having just completed this year's harvest. Ken had served with the U. S. Army and was a lifetime member of Salem United Church of Christ in Wanatah.
Ken was an accomplished photographer and a lover of multiple music genres; classical, jazz, gospel and country. His youthful dream of playing professional baseball kept the love of the game alive in his heart. Area residents may remember Ken for his regular attendance at all of the regions county fairs and State Fair. Ken's understated appearance and quiet but energetic voice belied his active and industrious mind. He sought stimulating conversation wherever he went.
In August 1957, he married Edris Anderson, who preceded him in death in 2005. Survivors include their children; Andrew Batzka, Brian (Dana) Batzka and Caroline Batzka. He also was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Joan Bogan.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Salem U.C.C., 302 S. Main St., Wanatah, with burial to follow at Salem Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3:30-7:00 p.m., Tuesday at Wanatah Funeral Chapel.
