GENERAL JOHN E. ROLLER DEAD AT AGE OF 73

Gen. John E. Roller, of Harrisonburg long a conspicuous figure in the Valley, died at the Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, on Saturday night, at 9 o'clock after a brief Illness, aged 73 years. He was the son of Peter S . Roller and Frances Hallebach, and a native of of Rockingham County, he was graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 1863, and served the Confederacy in various capacities, teaching for a short time at the V.M.I. Studying Law he entered on the practice after the war at Harrisonburg and had since resided there. He was a leading member of Reformed Church. His title of General came by appointment from Governor Gilbert C. Walker in 1872, in the militia. Surviving Gen. Roller are five daughters: Mrs. George G. Grattan, Mrs. John Cannady, Misses Lucy, Elizabeth and Ann Roller, one brother, Dr. Robert D. Roller, and two sisters, Mrs. Bayne M. Bushong and Mrs. William Nuchols. 'The funeral will take place on Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock from the family residence, the interment will be in Woodbine cemetery.
