Officer Edgar Preston Alexander was a member of the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC.

Circumstance: Officer Alexander of the Fourteenth Precinct, was representing the Metropolitan Police at the funeral of Sergeant George Benjamin Cornwell, formerly of the Fourteenth Precinct, in Romney, West Virginia.

Sergeant Cornwell is enrolled in Find A Grave, memorial number 19475116, being buried at Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney, West Virginia.

When the funeral was over, Officer Alexander was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a single car crash with a telephone pole just outside of Gaithersburg, Maryland. Officer Alexander suffered internal injuries and died on the scene. Edward Arnold, of Forestville, Maryland a passenger in the auto was also killed. Mr. Arnold is remembered in Find A Grave, memorial number 36711139. Injured were the driver, Detective James Billman, of the Fourteenth Precinct, and the Reverend Harry Paul Baker of the Calvary Baptist Church.

Mr. Arnold was survived by his wife, and fourteen year old daughter. Reverend Baker suffered a broken leg. Detective Billman who was admitted to Emergency Hospital was charged with reckless driving, and was ordered to appear in Police Court in Rockville, Maryland.

Officer Alexander's body was taken to his home at 3414 Q Street NW, and the funeral was held November 19, 1929, at Congress Street Methodist Church. His burial was at the family plot in Sterling, Virginia. He is buried alongside his wife, Olive Lavinia Moran Alexander.

Alexander, Jr., of Seabrook, Maryland; Mrs. Evelyn Keely of Fairfax, Virginia; Mrs. Marjorie Weadon, and Mrs. June Jones, Palmer Park, Maryland; and Gordon Alexander, Arlington, Virginia.
