G.B. Douthit became a very prominent citizen of Benton/Calhoun County, Alabama serving as a Justice of the Peace, Tax Collector, and Circuit Clerk in Benton (Calhoun County) and served as Postmaster. His mother was Nancy Douthit who also moved from South Carolina to Alabama and lost in research was the name of the G.B. and Mahaney's father who probably died in South Carolina. Nancy Douthit was still living in 1840 census of Benton Co., AL.

G.B. married Jane Mills and they are buried in Jacksonville City Cemetery with many of their descendants.

Gabriel Benson Douthit was a brother to Susannah Mahaney Douthit Griffin, a South Carolina native who lived and died in Benton/Calhoun County, Alabama. Old family records state they came to Benton County in 1833. G.B. was single. Mahaney married W.M. Griffin. Census and church records indicate G.B. and Mahaney's mother, Nancy, also came to Alabama. W.M. Griffin and a number of his brothers came from South Carolina and settled in Benton Co., Alabama. Mahaney Douthit Griffin is a great-great grandmother to submitter, NGL. G.B. & Mahaney's mother, Nancy Douthit, who is my 3rd great grandmother and I share the same first name.
