Eleanor Parker Akins, 102, died Sunday, November 9, 2014, at her residence under the care of Hospice Advantage.

Mrs. Akins was a native of Charleston, S.C., and lived most of her life in Bulloch County and Statesboro. Eleanor was a graduate of Middleground School and worked many years as a waitress at Mrs. Bryant's Kitchen. She retired from Georgia Southern University, where she worked in the Food Services Department, and also retired after 40 years of service from Forest Heights Country Club, where she was a hostess and worked until she was 98 years old. She was a member of Statesboro First Baptist Church, where she was an active member of the Steadfast-Dorcas Sunday School Class and the WMU, and was also a charter member of the Middleground Homemaker's Club, in which she was a member for over 50 years. Eleanor was a recipient of the Deen Day Smith Service to Mankind Award and was also name State Homemaker of the Year with the State of Georgia Homemaker's Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolphus and Willie Beasley Parker; her husband, Brooks Leroy Akins; and her son-in-law, Edmond A. Kubiak, Jr.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at Statesboro First Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. H. William Perry officiating. Burial will be in Upper Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
