Harold “Ed” Akridge, 87, of Pascagoula, MS passed away on Veteran’s Day, Tuesday, November 11, 2014. Ed was born in AL on July 15, 1927. He was raised in Geneva County, AL. He finished school at Samson High School. He was a World War II veteran where he served in the 13th AF in the Philippines and 20th AF in Guam. He has been a resident of Jackson County, MS since 1951. Ed retired from International Paper Company after 35 years of service. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Pascagoula, Supervisors Club at International Paper, lifetime member of VFW Post 3373, and American Legion Post 160. He also participated in the final Gulf Coast Honor Flight.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wade and Florence Akridge; first wife, Lottie Mae Akridge; second wife, Maxine McLelland Akridge; and brother, W. R. Akridge.

He is survived by his step-daughters, Kathy (Richard) Chenoweth and Karen (Randy) Joplin; grandchildren, Lauren Chenoweth, Amy Chenoweth, and Hunter Joplin; niece, Jane A. (Dennis) Byrd; nephews, Steve Akridge and David (Mary) Akridge; and all of Pascagoula.

The family would like to give special thanks to his caregivers, Ruth Chambers and Gwen Fountain.

The visitation for Ed will be held on Friday, November 14, 2014, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in Escatawpa, MS. The funeral service will begin at 12 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sherry Judy and Rev. Earl Greenough officiating. Interment will follow at Serene Memorial Gardens.

Heritage Funeral Home of Moss Point-Escatawpa is in charge of arrangements.
