The decedent's age at the time of her death was eighty-four years, nine months and seven days. She was born at Green, Schenango [sic] county, New York, April 8, 1821. She was the third in a family of nine children, all of whom lived to a hale old age, although five of them have preceded her in death. Her maiden name was Ann Terwilliger, her parents being Mr. and Mrs. Philip Terwilliger, who came here at an early date and settled on the farm now owned by S. M. Dow.
She was married to Abram [sic] Maynard January 12, 1842. Three years later they came to Illinois, settling on a forty acre tract of land, now a part of the old homestead owned by E.L. Maynard. Here they lived until 1881 when they built a home in the village, so as to spend their remaining days in peace and comfort. Abram [sic} Maynard died ten years ago. For the past three years Mrs. Maynard had made her home with her daughter.
Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Maynard. Two of these died many years ago--Mary at the age of fourteen and Philip in infancy. The living children are James W. and George D., of Lake View, Iowa; Henry of Vail, Iowa; Edwin L., Charles and Mrs. S.M. Dow of this place. Three sisters survive her--Mrs. C. Lane of Santa Clara, California; Mrs. A.J. Mann of Elgin, and Mrs. Hannah Maynard of this place.
The funeral was held yesterday with services at 10:30 o'clock from the home, Rev. J.H. Johnson officiating. The burial was in the Hampshire Center cemetery.
Newspaper Obituary from the scrapbook of her granddaughter, May Maynard Petersen.
